Following its deployment in the beginning of February, a ZX 300 wind Lidar is accurately measuring wind speeds 1300m above mean sea level in The Carpathian Mountain range, Ukraine. Supporting independent power generation projects, the ZX 300 wind Lidar will be carrying out a one-year wind resource campaign in the region, supporting the development of onshore wind farms and green reconstruction. As the war continues, Ukraine is planning its green reconstruction, with a focus rebuilding the country with as small a carbon footprint as possible. Leaders in the country are looking to decentralise power generation and reduce the dependence on neighbouring countries, believing it is essential to the country’s economic recovery and national security. The country’s government is now aiming for a mix of 50% renewables and 50% nuclear on its grid by 2030.

Senior Sales Manager at ZX Lidars, Matthew Smith commented: “Having recently attended the Black Sea Energy Week conference, and hearing first-hand how Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Energy, Yaroslav Demchenkov, laid out the countries plans for their energy system to become more resilient and sustainable; I am delighted to see one of our Lidars deployed, supporting renewable energy project development in Ukraine”.

The challenging location of the deployment was tackled by RES Techservice (“RTS”), facing dense snow cover and freezing temperatures. RTS supported their client with the installation and associated turnkey services, including a specialised power trailer and autonomous supply consisting of a methanol fuel cell and battery set. RTS is a part of adviRES Group, which provide commercial, consulting, financing, and engineering services for renewable energy projects across Europe.

Maksym Honcharenko, Managing Director at RTS added: “RTS is delighted to support our client with their renewable energy development plans in Ukraine. We pride ourselves in providing our state-of-the-art and turnkey services throughout wind resource campaigns.

The mountain range experiences temperatures of as low as -20 degrees Celsius however the robust design of the ZX 300 wind Lidar, along with our specialised knowledge and solutions has allowed our client to already see accurate and reliable wind data from the site.”

With over 15,000 deployments in 100 countries globally, the ZX 300 wind Lidar is built to last and operate in extreme environments, simple and complex terrain, and in clear air, all with its survive-in-field attitude.
