Natural Power will support the delivery of environmentally impact studies as part of the hydrogen corridor project, H2Med.

Working on behalf of Tecnoambiente, Natural Power will support BarMar to analyse the various potential routes for the offshore pipeline, connecting Barcelona, Spain to Marseille in France, spanning across the Mediterranean Sea.

The three Transmission System Operators (TSOs) expect to identify a preferred corridor route and consider technical, economic, environmental, and societal perspectives through the evaluation.

Natural Power’s County Director for France, Pierre Warlop, claimed the development of a cross-border and multidisciplinary initiative will enable Europe to be “supplied with affordable green hydrogen by 2030.”

“The project delivery will call on our extensive experience in delivering environmental studies for renewable energy developments and our offshore team of technical specialists in marine ecology, ornithology, marine mammals and fisheries liaison,” explained Warlop.

Launched in 2022, the €2.5bn ($2.7bn) H2Med project was initiated to build a “European hydrogen backbone,” according to Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission.

The corridor is set to carry 10% of European hydrogen consumption, equating to around two million tonnes per year.

The project is being advanced by four TSOs from Spain, France, Portugal and Germany. Enagás, GRTgaz, Teréga, REN and OGE all joined H2Med in October 2023.

gasworld’s North American Hydrogen Summit 2024

Join the H2 View and gasworld teams in New Jersey on April 8-10, 2024, for the dual Decarbonisation Summit 2024 and North American Hydrogen Summit 2024.

The global industrial gas and equipment business has an imperative role to play in the future of clean fuels and decarbonisation. The energy transition simply won’t happen without it. And hydrogen has a key role to play.
