When organic components are broken down in deficiency of oxygen, they produce a gas known as Biogas. The gas basically is a bio fuel that is generated by biogenic materials. The gas can be produced by different means including fermentation (which is also known as anaerobic digestion) of materials like manure, biomass, green waste, energy crops and municipal waste. Carbon dioxide and methane are the main components of biogas. There are other types of biogas e.g. wood gas created when wood is burnt. The burnt wood produces hydrogen, carbon monoxide and nitrogen. There are few amounts of methane. The gas can also be collected by drilling wells in landfill sites. Large gas stations have been built to produce commercial amounts of biogas and they supply it to large power firms that use the product to run their machines. It is easily adaptable to be used as fuel in many countries. It can be used for basic home purposes e.g. cooking. It is used in modern factories to run machines and also generate electrical or mechanical power.

If compressed, this gas can be used to power automobiles. In Sweden, there is an operational train powered by biogas which is generated from sewage and cow waste. Due the biogas ability to emit minimal amounts of carbon dioxide, the Swedish government has opted for this as a better way for running the motor industry. Compared to diesel, biogas generates less nitrous oxide to the environment. It’s a renewable fuel product and hence approved in many countries for use. Sweden produces the gas from beverages that are alcoholic and have been captured and termed as waste by the government regulating agencies. Biogas constitutes a large percentage of methane that is concentrated to form bio methane which is supplied to be used in household cooking and energy generating products. Concentrated methane is also compressed and used to power automobiles.

Car manufacturing companies are designing cars that are meant to run on biogas. Although it is believed that biogas was been used to run car in the past years, as time elapsed, improvements have been made and currently the car can be efficiently powered by biogas and give the best service. In some countries, the governments are partnering with private companies in extraction, and supplying of biogas. For example in Pakistan, the government funds up to 50{9d1f0b33d0dfecc7a532185a91e80dc02994fcd6e1d2f71ba6b569dea4e7d0d7} for creation of chambers to extract gas. The produced gas is supplied to the citizens who pay much less compared to what they pay for gasoline products. Compared to diesel, biogas generates less nitrous oxide to the environment. It’s a renewable fuel product and hence approved in many countries for use. With all of the mentioned advantages, it is of no doubt that in the coming future, biogas will be a household name and the energy sector will relay completely on this dependable source of power. The automobile industry will highly benefit from this fuel alternative hence giving stability and good health to the users and the environment they will be operating from.
