Wind turbine blades harness wind energy and drive the rotor of a wind turbine but what it takes to build one? There are three important factors: optimal blade geometry, airfoil and the adequate material.

It is extremely important to gel coat layer to insure protection of blade surface. There are also fiberglass layers in order to ensure strength and stability of blades. Fiberglass reinforcements with accurate dimensions adds strength to the proper places.

Root base elements are engineered to meet all required specifications and carbon main spar cap ensures stiffness and strength. Balsa wood, foam or recycled PET are used for high strength-to-weight ratio.

Resin infusion adds structural strength and integrity while webs are attached to shells with special adhesive. The two shells are joined together to form a blade.

The engineers also integrate lightning protection system in order to increase reliability of the blades.

A smooth finish of blade requires thorough surface treatment. Since blades need to withstand harsh weather conditions they also require leading edge protection.

The engineers also use T-spoilers in order to enhance aerodynamic performance of turbines.

Vortex generators need to be optimally designed in order to achieve maximum energy production. Diamond serrations are also used in order to reduce the level of noise emissions.

A precise hub connection is of vital importance to ensure maximum wind energy output.
