Infinium and Amogy have entered into an agreement to explore opportunities in green hydrogen-based e-fuels and green ammonia.

Under the Memorandum of Understand (MoU) the pair will jointly study and identify the most suitable applications to deploy e-fuel and green ammonia solutions.

A key focus of the collaboration will be integrating Amogy’s ammonia cracking technology to provide “low-cost, accessible green hydrogen” feedstock as an input to produce Infinium’s e-fuels.

The two companies plan to undertake pilot programmes to showcase the solutions, while developing commercial use cases.

Robert Schuetzle, CEO of Infinium, said the partnership would go a long way towards helping advance the Californian firm’s ability to rapidly scale the production of its “ultra-low carbon” e-fuels including e-SAF, e-diesel and e-naphtha.

Seonghoon Woo, CEO of Amogy, said that by uniting the companies’ expertise and resources, the pair aim to unlock opportunities for sustainable solutions.

“This partnership reflects a shared commitment to accelerating technologies that can contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions in the heavy industry sector,” he added.

Furthermore, Infinium and Amogy will explore collaborations with both Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and SK Innovation for the deployment of the solution. SK and MHI previously invested in both companies.

“I believe their partnership will result in the identification of breakthrough opportunities to expand and grow access to cleaner fuels,” said Hyunchol Park, Managing Director and Head of Global Trading at SK Trading International.

Ricky Sakai, Senior Vice-President of New Business Development at MHI of America, added, “We are excited to see how Amogy’s emission-free, energy-dense ammonia solution and Infinium’s proprietary e-fuels production process might be aligned to overcome challenges and accelerate the global availability of commercial decarbonisation solutions.”
