From April 17th to 23rd this year, the world’s largest industrial show will take place in Hanover. In 2023, Hydrogen + Fuel Cells Europe, which started out as a small joint stand, is likely to be one of the driving forces of this technology show. The trade fair at the trade fair has developed into an industry highlight in the H2 and FC sector over the past three decades and will this time offer a comprehensive overview of the latest developments and a wide variety of technology paths on a gross area of ??around 10,000 m2.
The motto of this year’s Hanover Fair is: “Industrial Transformation – Making the Difference”. The content will be about the industrial changes that are required to noticeably and on a large scale reduce CO2 emissions. Numerous leading international companies from mechanical engineering, the electrical and digital industry as well as the energy industry (over 4,000 exhibitors in total) want to show their solutions for resource-efficient, climate-neutral and resilient production.
Building a global H2 economy
As in 2022, Deutsche Messe organized a networking event for the hydrogen community in Berlin in preparation for the industry show. On January 23, 2023, ten representatives from different companies presented their current projects and solutions relating to hydrogen and fuel cells in three-minute pitches at the representation of the state of Lower Saxony at the federal level. The so-called 3minutes2talk had the motto “Development of a global hydrogen economy” and was opened by Lower Saxony’s Economics Minister Olaf Lies.
In addition to host Dr. Jochen Köckler, representatives of the FEST Group, Iberdrola Energie Deutschland, ThyssenKrupp Nucera and Ørsted were present. In addition, H.E. Arif Havas Oegroseno, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia, delivered a greeting as the representative of this year’s partner country. The Indonesian President Joko Widodo has confirmed his personal participation in the HM23 and will speak at the opening ceremony on April 16th as well as take part in the Chancellor’s tour with the Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz on the Monday of the trade fair.
Hydrogen will then be one of five trend topics – alongside CO2-neutral production, artificial intelligence, energy management and Industry 4.0. According to Deutsche Messe, “more than 500 companies” will be presenting hydrogen and fuel technologies at the Hanover exhibition center this year. Around 270 institutions are expected at the Hydrogen + Fuel Cells trade fair alone, which will increase the number of exhibitors and the area by 25 percent. It occupies half of Hall 13.
H2Eco Award announced again
After the positive response from the previous year, there will be another H2Eco Award in 2023 – again under the patronage of the Federal Minister of Economics. The German Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association (DWV) e.V. and Deutsche Messe AG will jointly present this award to companies that are outstandingly committed to a H2 market economy – especially with regard to profitability, sustainability, security of supply and climate protection.
The ceremonial presentation of this prize, which is endowed with 5,000 euros, will take place on April 18, 2023 at the Public Forum in Hall 13 by Economics Minister Robert Habeck.
The electrolysis fraction will once again be strongly represented – probably with over 20 companies. Organizer Tobias Renz is particularly pleased that “the Chinese are back”. Around 20 players from the People’s Republic alone, including Refire and several electrolyser manufacturers, will be represented on the orange carpet. There will also be a 145 m2 Norwegian pavilion with companies such as Nel, Teco 2030 and Yara.
Emerson shows automation technology
Emerson Electric Co., a US specialist in automation technology, is exhibiting in Hanover for the second time after 2022 and will present its entire product portfolio. This includes, among other things, the construction of complete production plants for electrolysers and fuel cells. The company, which was founded in 1890, originally came from the oil and gas industry, but is now dedicating itself to more sustainable topics. In Germany alone, the global group employs over 3,500 people.
According to Tassilo Gast, Development Manager at Emerson Process Management GmbH & Co. OHG, to HZwei, the Langenfeld-based company offers a much more extensive range of services than comparable competitors (e.g. Siemens, ABB, Honeywell), since also upstream and downstream production steps, including the entire documentation, are integrated.
