Nuvera Fuel Cells will deliver a hydrogen-powered mobile generator to Papé Material Handling’s site in Fresno, California.

The HydroCharge unit is a hydrogen-powered AC Genset and DC fast charger, which is capable of providing on-site power and electric vehicle (EV) charging.

This represents the first demonstration of Nuvera’s unit, said to provide “clean reliable, on-demand power to locations with limited or no grid access.”

It is reported to be suitable for warehouses, parking lots, construction and mining sites, shipping ports and airports, in addition to addressing the need for backup power at data centres. Nuvera has stated it can also provide temporary power for concerts, sports events or movie sets.

“As grid limitations pose challenges to the clean energy transition and California Air Resources Board (CARB) zero-emission generator mandates begin in 2028, the advantages of hydrogen fuel cell solutions are becoming increasingly clear,” explained Kedar Murthy, Nuvera Chief Commercial Officer (CCO).

“We look forward to demonstrating that our hydrogen-electric generator successfully matches the performance of internal combustion engine (ICE) gensets and provides a transportable, off-grid power source with refuelling time comparable to diesel and gas-powered machines.”

The company unveiled the mobile generator at the ACT Expo 2024 in Las Vegas, after undergoing continuous validation testing at Nuvera’s factory. Development of the fully commercial version is currently underway.
